Listening to every heart

Biting Comments

I worked outside a bit tonight,
tending weeds by removal
filling watering bowls
futzing around.

“Wow,” I thought,
“no highly obnoxious
mosquitoes.”

For I am mosquito bait. I
truly am. I wish not to be
but woe is me. I don’t wear
perfume when working outside,
yet I forget to put on all of the
anti-mosquito-ridder-lotion-potions
that are out there.

Mosquito bait.
Dumb me.

So while I thought the cooler air
was the culprit for no immediate
attacks, I sought to seek a moment
in the cool air, on the back yard
enclosed patio, listening to some
country music, some taking me back
to youthfilled times, even while the dogs
were smarter, saying “take us in, Mom,
go to bed, Mom” and I didn’t listen.

No…there a small smart of pain, here
a small smart of pain, there a scratch,
here an itch….

And now I have to Benadryl before
bedtime. Enjoy life, my friends…
e’en through the ‘squitos!

Oh man.  I do hate mosquitoes.  I have only sympathy for you ... your poem took me to a place that I don't want to go.  I am hoping that our winter was so long that the mosquitoes died off.  I can only hope, right?

I hear you, Karilea. Since Katrina the mosquitoes and fly problems where I live has greatly, and gratefully, diminished.

How I can relate to your "biting comments", dear Karilea! Those little enemies hide everywhere to get a dose of blood and it has to be strictly human blood.

I bought a new spray in the hope it was more efficient than others to keep them off my skin, but when I first sprayed it on my legs in the bathroom I was going to suffocate, coughing like crazy ... now if I need to put it on I have to go out on the balcony and after spraying I have to run away from the spot to not inhale it. It's crazy. I sprayed it on my neck, but hey my enemy number one found a "clean" spot behind my ear ... It's quite simply depressing, because the joy to stay outside is totally spoiled.

Thank you for allowing me to whine ... what can we do?

Just sending hugs your way.
Love,
Margherita

Yep Karilea them skeeters are here alright!
Nearly ate off my left arm last night. They drove me off the porch and into the house. I have been going around and emptying the rain water out of everything I can find in the yard.  Time to break out the fogger, repellant, buglights and flyswatters!

Saw a tv programe and mosquitoes are attracted to the breath of humans and they especially like females? Two people went into a chamber, mosquitoes were released, and of the man and woman in the chamber, the lady was bitten most, guess they just cannot resist you K....or you are just too nice...LOL...BTW enjoyed the poem too..LOL..thank you...

lol,

Yep, I would be caught pushing my luck too I bet, though it was probably worth the trade, all-in-all.  Nice to read you again, K.

Enclosed patio, cool weather, country music...

Yep, those 'squitos should have definitely been repelled,

um, but, then, again, you should have listened to those dogs!  Enjoyed!

(Btw, I do love Country Music, but I just couldn't, I just couldn't resist the opportunity given here. Big Smiles.)

The ones in my yard and area, would have yours for breakfast my friend, hogtie you and tuck you under a bush and have you for dinner. They are the biggest, meanest Tiger Mosquitoes you never want to see.  When they bite your leg, the proboscis goes all the way through and they have to withdraw it an inch or so, just to get the blood flowing! They use Benadryl as a lubricant.

Loved this piece...

I do have to admit, Jimmie's comment just made me squirm in my own seat! Love you all, be brave, try to enjoy the summer...

Yesterday some of my children and grandkids went out [fore-sprayed with accomodating mosquito repellent] and I need to say, they [the 'squitos] missed most of us...but I have a granddaughter [my youngest] who is apparently following her grandmom J on the "who can bite me most?" list. Poor baby!

Thank you all...and especially those who relate. Love, Pre-bitten K

I am very lucky that mosquitos don't bite me (or my daughter) too mean I guess. I am also immune to poison oak and poison Ivy as was my mother and brothers. The rest of the family is not so lucky. I find that Avon Skin-so-soft works very well in keeping away mosquitos, fleas and most other insects.

Karilea, I am mosquito bait too. But am trying to enjoy this  early summer heat and relax as you are, on my porch swing, listening to music or in my screen room. Before I sit out I spray Yard Guard in the vicinity or Off has a spray and that seems to keep the bugs away for a while.

hope all is going well with your family,

M
