these things, i send to the horizon each plunge a cacophony of rupture to emerge round and full; i scatter them, shiny-wet with birth to follow them off of this precipice, the future of something. it is blue and blue for miles of pale longing my childhood is cast aside as cold and flat wants, left bleeding on the marble of me, dancing little things. i shut my eyes and they light on lash-tips like fireflies pulses of on off, on off and something of forever tucked to each wing a fragile thing, that to fly high or flatline in the nothing, or encompasing of wonder and resolve and shards will bleed my feet, bare forward-facing statuette of crepe and milk i will weep through this, this lack of definition it will slice into marrow if only to propel me forward one step and i fear that chasm the miles of pale blue longing my dreams are sent to the horizon in fear and want of faith and that is the leap i must take |

Ah yes indeed, you will take that leap, Nicole. There is no other way for a soul trying to best the universe which seems to be out to destroy her. "a fragile thing, that to fly high or flatline in the nothing, or encompasing of wonder and resolve" Yesssssss! ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

"these things, i send to the horizon" "i scatter them, shiny-wet with birth" Leaping. indeed is there in those statements.. The children of these "births" might be the search for clarity of scattered thoughts, about many different things "to follow them off of this precipice" This is the cliff one comes to, at the edge of the world A jumping off place, into the blue of that hides knowing.. a jumping off place Like Holden looked for, in Catcher In The Rye. "i shut my eyes and they light on lash-tips like fireflies" Excellent... Again, I see the cliff on the edge of Salinger's field: The adult consciousness in you trying to keep your childself from falling off..and yet you, and none can master the metaphysics that propel you...so instead of falling, You send your dreams to a different horizon.. "my dreams are sent to the horizon" To redefine faith? "in fear and want of faith" The leap (of faith)is not out into nothing, and though it lacks definition-- is not solid, it is vaguely familiar, and you know you must take it. I think the place you long for is reflective, a reseeking of what was, to make sense of what is. You say "... that is the leap i must take" I may be a million miles off course here but this is what I see between the lines of this very good poem. |

Ford... you were replying when I was; I didn't mean to not include you. I must give you more time than I have right now (pfft...work, they expect me to go to work!)...I will be back to reply in more depth, in a bit. |

I'm really pleased that you saw Catcher in the Rye, in this; it has a lot of very similar themes that you've easily pointed out. The children of these "births" might be the search for clarity of scattered thoughts, about many different things YES There is a jumping off place, yes...the jumping though, is the trick. The leap (of faith)is not out into nothing, and though it lacks definition-- is not solid, it is vaguely familiar, and you know you must take it. I think the place you long for is reflective, a reseeking of what was, to make sense of what is. You're absolutely right ... there is so much definition to slog through; and a person comes to a point in their life, regardless of when it is, and they have to choose to examine certain things - maybe redefine a lot of things - and then are born into who they need/want to be. Thank you so much for such a thorough reply, Ford - I enjoy the discussion. ![]() |

to fly high or flatline in the nothing, Some things are worth every effort, even if there's a chance of failure... for failure is certain if you don't try. *S* I love the images you present, especially in the second stanza! *S* |
