Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

A fresh cup of coffee
takes the edge off
jagged emotions
and reluctance.

Card board boxes
litter the garage floor,
waiting to be filled
with memories

And the light scent
of Mom, which lingers
on each first grade paper
cherished and saved.

One box for each daughter
to be filled and sent
across the country,
treasure boxes for all.

Filled with love
and the gentle touch
of a Mother reaching out,
reminding us of her love

For us in ways she could not
always express.
Her pride evident
in each box carefully packed.

One more cup of coffee.
One more cardboard box
as the sun streams through
my Mother’s windows.

As the sun streams through
my Mother’s window,
I swallow one more cup
of coffee laced with tears.

Very, very emotional and touching poetry. The boxes. Yes, indeed, the boxes.

This brought me to tears, Alison as I have done this and it is so hard to do. Sending you love and peace.

Wow, Alison, not often does a piece bring tears to me, but this piece did. Awesome, awesome write, and so full of love and heart.

Just a wonderful write, my friend.

One of the most beautiful poems I have ever read, Alison.  This is possibly not a good time to tell you this, but I know you will forgive what appears to be my lack of sensitivity (though it is also a tribute from me to your Mom), but I so envy you your Mom, but I am so happy for you that you had the Mom you did.

Thank you, Jerry, Ida, Jimmy and Wol ~

Your words and thoughts mean so much to me.  I really only share my poetry here, so the thoughts are very sweet.

I felt the emotion growing with each stanza until the final one when I simply was right there with you sharing the moment, very deeply so.

... and remembering my own moments of closeness with my beloved Mom through what she left ...

You speak here about the most beautiful "love packages" that we shall ever know of.

Thank you, dear Alison!

Much love and hugs.

As "Power of Attorney," (Though an honorable one, still, what a dreadful power)  I too have been given the responsibility when my Father passes, so, in your poem, I really do feel for you and feel the emotion that you must face in performing those very difficult and emotional tasks ahead.  I can only imagine... but, however, I do appreciate so very much the Love for family that you express with tears as you pack up those boxes for your sisters.  Sad, but, also, your poem expresses your very Beautiful Nature.  Enjoyed!

Coffee and tears and cardboard boxes... I've had similar days, packing and distributing the things my Dad left behind. And it's hard... but there's also something infinitely precious in holding those memories one last time before they go to bless someone else's life.

Big hugs to you and hopes you will always feel her love.

Dear Margherita, Bob and Ruth,

Thank you for your understanding and for reaching out to me.  My Mom will always be a very special part of my life - but, I am happy for her.

Love,
