Some Deep Dark Place There is a place I know so well, You’ll find it just this side of hell. A place I hold in place of heart— In place of life been ripped apart. Where shadows linger by the day, Obscuring any other way… Where fingers, in forgotten mist, Find you and you cannot resist The gentle lull, pulling you down Till in desolation you drown… But wake to find the pathway back To this place: deep and dark and black. A cycle for the unaware That opens the door to despair, Till by whispers of unfound grace You stand, a man without a face! Isolation your only guide, He greets you with arms open wide— Holds you, like one would hold the dead, Till ev’ry ounce of hope is bled. And in this place, where none are found— Where silence is the only sound Other than thought, which drives you mad, You recount everything you had. Precise in detail, rich in weight, You stack blocks of preordained fate Till they form an amorphous wall You hide behind, but then watch fall… Where the onrush of self-pity Curses you in self-righteous plea, Till even blackness starts to fade From tomorrow’s mem’ry, unmade. quote: Great last line, man. You, sir, have become a master of the dark poetry. I have to say that I like the difference in how you construct your poems these days. They are still dark, because that is who you are, but they are not as far down in the bottomless dark as you used to write. At least that is how I see it. I love reading you. ~*~ How does Moses make his tea? Hebrews it. ~*~ |

quote: Yes, your poem exposes this place so very very well, but, also, for me, it emphasizes and reemphasizes again the importance of relationship(s) and helps me a bit more to appreciate the other(s) I have in my life. Enjoyed! |

"A cycle for the unaware That opens the door to despair, Till by whispers of unfound grace You stand, a man without a face!" Beautiful rhyme and flow throughout Michael ... I always enjoy your writing and the depths and darkness you explore with such eloquence. Best wishes, /Kit |

And in this place, where none are found— Where silence is the only sound Other than thought, which drives you mad, You recount everything you had. I've known this place well these past few weeks. Death can drop the floor out from under us and those basements are dark, dank despairing and bottomless... whether loss is of life or death of dreams. It's hard to count your blessings when thoughts of all you've lost strangle your brain. Excellent write! |

quote: When hell visits us like this, it holds an intrinsic blessing, insofar it is a warning that reminds us to look deeper inside and see who we really are. It's a visit, it's not a permanent state. You transmit visuals that remind me of Dante's "Divine Comedy" in the "inferno" part. Wow! That's what I felt while reading your masterfully written poem, dear Michael. Margherita |
