The small brown box with dovetailed corners scuffs and scratches gouges and lines a delicate hook clasp and memories of mine used to sit on a shelf overlooking dad's desk Upon this old battered box used to sit a one eyed peg-legged pirate made of modeling clay that could still be amended by fingers next to whom seemingly floated an ugly duck from a 3rd grader's recall of a decoy her Daddy collected Kiln baked and glazed Now the box is mine I made the pirate walk the plank and my duck only a daddy could love is tucked in a corner of the hutch What sits upon it now beside me is a snow globe picture frame My mother is smiling overlooking me as I write LGR(c)2/19/12 |

It's amazing how many memories a small box can contain... both of what's there and what isn't. The last 3 lines really touched me! |
