. Snow falls Diagonal in a cold Harsh wind Imagine it Living in Russia The nineteenth century Year by year slowly Dragging on And there are poets Making rhymes During bouts of clap That keep them in While peasants huddle By their stoves In darkened hovels That know no love Except for God Who has not Yet arrived Bringing freedom vodka And a loaf of bread . |

I wish I had asked my grandparents, who were from Russia, what life for them had been like before they came here. You always make me think, John. M |

Like Maureens grandparents my husbands grandparents came from Russia too when they were about twenty. Interesting read. ~Victoria Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes. |
