A Super Sunday

Snow has captured the mountains
and down the canyons it breaths
into the empty city streets
around the cement and bricks
of Sunday at three

The sky is a dull gray
and from the house of stone
across the street with door open
I hear loud shouts and cheers
that echo around the branches
of the naked trees

I race across the lawn
and throw myself down
hands gripping the legs of my startled husband
trying to get into the super bowl mood
but the lawn streaks my light blue jeans green
and he falls with a loud thud into the rose bush
and the mood is not good

I look back across the street as loud curses
flip across the parked pick up trucks
and bounce across the street
as I sit on the damp ground with my moaning man
who is looking at me now
with a look that feels like he caught
whatever had been thrown

This seems like a good thing to do
to sit here as the afternoon breathes that cool air
and listen to the human sounds that start
a chaos of dogs barking down the alley
and across the street into the village

Listen I say to his almost smile
the one that is playing now as I take his hand
and pull him toward me
as we both sit perfectly still
while through the neighbor’s window
on a giant screen
the blurred game is played

WoW! You seem to be the manly one in this marriage. You took him out like a testosterone-laced linebacker, Martie. I'm awed.

It looks to me like you two had a lot more fun than the neighbors sitting and watching. Especially during those 34 minutes of the power outage.

This poem was delightfully rendered and read with delight. So good to see you here; I know, I'm the one that's been gone, but still....

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

*smile*

A huge win for you, mah sweet Marite!

And I have to grin a N'awlins grin at:

"whatever has been thrown"

Coulda been beads, coulda been doubloons, but more'n likely it was a breaker.

Wow, dear Martie, reading this masterpiece brings the awareness of how much you are missed, when you keep the distance!
