When I was a small lad And I played until dog-tired Sometimes I'd sneak into the woods Not far from the back of our house There was a little stream Where I'd stop To watch and listen And harvest the sounds and sights Into my thoughts In the creek were tall reeds Rising above the water They bent with whatever wind Blew that day Transfixed I sat watching the reeds Waving at me As I stretched out my legs In the background Of this idyllic setting A symphony was performing In my ears Frogs croaking The cawing of a huge blackbird Nearby Every so often Fish would leave the water Do a somersault And return to its environment If it was late afternoon A hoot-hoot from an old owl Tuning up for its nightly hunt At times such as this I found a childish peace from my turbulent world ©December 16, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Fish would leave the water Do a somersault A lovely scene you have painted Jerry. Moments like that is what inspires poets to be poets. ~Victoria Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs. |

You are so right, Victoria. I don't have a lot of pleasant memories from my childhood, but these kind, when I'm all alone with nature are the most profound. Thank you for you kind comments. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Nature embraced you on such idyllic days and how beautifully you listened, dear Jerry. Children have this ability to immerse in such serene surroundings and no doubt it was exactly what you needed. You have rendered this experience splendidly. Margherita |

Margherita, I think you are correct in saying that children have a way of giving into their surroundings that adults have long forgotten. Thank you for you kindness in reading and commenting on my words and thoughts. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Jo, thank you for being here in my part of the Blue Room. Escaping into the forest like I did from time to time gave me much respite to an otherwise pretty bad childhood. I could lay there and dream dreams. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

I'm so happy you have found that place in your youth, and maybe even now. Thanks, Ida, for taking some time with me today. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

I find myself going back to those kind of days more and more in the later years of my life. Better, much better, JL, than dragging up the bad. Appreciate your read and comments. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
