Promised Land Even the vastness of rolling hills Can submit to the unyielding winds Of the Missouri Valley Grasslands Trees meant to touch the heavens Grow to be frozen and broken down Until limbs weep and branches crawl But from a distance It was beautiful The wind presses elongated strokes While the geese sing to joyous hymns Eager to steal remnants of sunlight Evening haze escapes from the river And illuminates the faint heartbeat; A residual of a lost spirit Forsaken in the Missouri Valley Juju -Juju |

Hi Juju...I thought this was a beautiful painting you created of the Missouri Valley. Enjoyed reading. ~Victoria Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs. |

Juju...this is gorgeous. I saw the movie "Promised Land" and you've depicted it clearly. If we can only be so smart as to not destroy the beauty [anymore] and still restill the sources....what a compromise! |

Fine descriptive writing and told in such economy of words, how a good poem should be...enjoyed the read and the visuals...thank you for the words... Goldenrose. music was my refuge.i could crawl into the spaces between the notes and curl my back to loneliness - Maya Angelou |

"But from a distance It was beautiful" What a gorgeous view, and a stimulating read. Felt I had been there. Loved it to the max! You envision and write scenery so very well. Enjoyed!! Juju, this is indeed what I mean when I ask people to once again look at life with open eyes and minds instead of being attatched to gadgets that can only give them a glimps at a time. Thank you for reading my post and sharing yours. jo |

I didn't see the movie, but it can't be as good as this poem, Juju. It is (as your work always is, in whatever way is most appropriate for the specific poem) very beautiful indeed. I basked in your poem, seeing nature in all its magic and cruelty and all the natural nuances of humankind in all its beauty and ugliness and your exquisite blend of the two and all the underlying moods of the poem - and the images and emotions will be with me long after I have pressed the Submit button. Thank you for the experience. Owl |

Nicely done JuJu. I especially like ..."Trees meant to touch the heavens Grow to be frozen and broken down Until limbs weep and branches crawl"... Very descript. |

What a spectacular winter scene you have portrayed. You took me there, and the surroundings were breathtaking. Excellent poem, Juju~ |

quote: Outstanding poetry, Juju. The winter's glaze cracks and bends trees limbs in grotesque shapes, 'tis true, but as you said, from a not too far distant it is a majestic sight to behold. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
