Cureless Pain The end of the week is supposed to be just, that With Mondays coming all, too fast Not end of days for those, too young With books and crayons and cookie crumbs The hopes of future in their chairs And thoughts of Christmas, in the air As teachers taught, the lessons planned This day we’ll never, understand When joy was shot and laughter killed The day we cried when milk was spilled And why, and why, and why We ask Must we be taken to, such task Why do we have such scars and flaws Why does our worth, come with such loss The ones who say time heals all wounds Have never, lost a child They leave us with their unwept tears And take with them, our smile Today a nation died, inside Our flag is, darker red Why are days like this so given as, our daily bread? This never was, supposed to be How death and, mass occurs This morning all these lives that are Are now, the babes that we’re Tonight the hands within our hearts are held, across the land For those whose hourglass has dropped their final, grain of sand And echoes soft in hallways dim where innocence, has passed Whisper gently now at rest their final, pledges asked Together now the class forever singing A B C’s Darkness, light silent night, pray, for you and me 12/14/2012 |

I enjoyed this poem, having wrote one about the tragedy myself, I have a yr & a half old daughter, so I can relate to what those parents are going through, and I know I'd be severely devasted if I ever lost my little girl! No parent should ever have to bury a child! Never! Excellant poem Richy! Kate |

Other than wonderful write, my friend, there are no words that apply to the tragedy in Newtown, and death isn't punishment enough for the shooter. Enjoyed... j. |

My tears flow for them. Thank you for this heart-wrenching poem, Richy. You have raised a very important question. It should be taken far more than extremely seriously by the powers that be and experts of all kinds should be involved in a multifaceted, short-term, medium-term and long-term investigation, and an attempt to prevent such events. Clearly there have to be many reasons, for each individual who perpetrates such acts, but when a certain type of crime, syndrome, psychotic behaviour pattern becomes a trend in a country or area which is not a trend in the rest of the world, I am sure there have to be underlying reasons that can be dealt with, to, at least, reduce the number of such incidents. We have, here in South Africa, certain types of crime, syndromes and psychotic behaviour patterns typical to South Africa, and I believe that they can be dealt with, with a tremendous amount of input from a tremendous number of different experts from a tremendous number of fields. You have paid a great tribute and speak for so many, you humble me, Richy. I heard Paul Simon's "sound of silence" was played at one of the funerals and my heart broke all over again. It's really hard to process such a horrible tragedy. So thank you Richy for putting into words the pain and anguish and helping us to heal in some way. I think these lines encompass a whole range of emotions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why do we have such scars and flaws Why does our worth, come with such loss ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and this~ "when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light that split the night and touched the sound of silence" Blessings and many prayers~ [This message has been edited by BluesSerenade (12-22-2012 05:36 PM).] |
