Last night I inventoried, The flotsam of my life. A few old faded photos, Of children and my wife. Some faded commendations- Just another also-ran- And my thoughts went drifting backward, To where it all began… I used to want to be a soldier, And I was for just a space. Then I opted for a cowboy, Ad the lifestyle left its trace. I took a shot at “lawman”- And probably I fit: But just when I had gotten good, I had to up and quit. So all I have is memories- Of a mediocre run- Some photos, and some fond regrets, And quite a lot of guns. A future getting shorter, And a past that’s far too fresh, And a sober recognition- “Hoss, you really made a mess!” |

Hey, I know the feeling, well said with a rhyme in the key of truth, a poem is a sigh |

Your ending tickled my funny bone. But your entire poem spoke softly to me of days gone by. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the times of my life, and when I didn't have a care in the world, heck I had my whole life in front of me. Loved your thoughts so much. Nicely done, cowboy!! |

It sounds like you are ready to write your obituary. I wrote mine a few years back, so don't laugh. Happy Holidays. ~Victoria~ Life is a great big canvas-Throw all the paint on it you can. -- Danny Kaye [This message has been edited by Victoria (12-20-2012 12:33 PM).] |
