in this fog i lose my vision to stumble in the mist. terrible, this darkness. so, "ignorance is bliss"? in the valley of the shadow, even gray shades seem to glow. truth is so obscure. i believe, but do not know. the candlelight dies quickly as it flickers in the drafts of night winds after sunset when the time for work is past. |

Very well expressed. I've often wondered how sight might be obscured by a cataract. Enjoyed the read. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

because of your signature JL, i speculate that you are a man of some faith, so it may interest you that this poem is actually depicting a personal experience of doubt and confusion, and not a literal cataract. thanks for the recognition and affirmation everyone. |

I read your explanation to J. I thought you might be describing something other then a cataract. I suppose when one is confused about anything its like walking in a fog. |

much of my poetry is allegory and is meant to be interpreted figuratively. like many others, this piece was forged in a furnace of tumultuos mental perplexity fueled by religious contentions. [This message has been edited by Ethern (12-02-2012 06:29 AM).] |

I enjoyed this. I know what it's like to believe, but to have to pray, 'help thou my unbelief'--sometimes you wonder. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

my husband and I often have deep discussions about faith...it seems the very definition of faith lends to confusion, at best it is a decision and a determination to keep ones mind turned in that direction... now I am laughing at my lengthy reply, here I came to compliment the brevity and ended up out wording you lol |
