A touch, a whisper on the skin Reminds her of a love once dim Combusts to flicker in the dark Memories still hit the mark Of his caress, like strokes of heat Insinuate as her heart beats Not lost to time, those years long gone Remembers kisses cast upon Frail fingertips that lift to soothe A cheek once rounded, soft and smooth They tremble as they stroke her lips Navigate from breasts to hips So long ago they had a life He was her husband, she his wife Her hearing lost, her vision dim She hears his whispers on her skin - Alison To my Mom |

Alison, this is extraordinary because children don't always see their mothers in the light of youth and love. I could feel my heart grow tight in my chest as I read this, thinking how those memories must feel to her, as if it were only yesterday.... Hugs to you and yes, it's a tender poem. The memories are part of her very heart...and now yours. ~ Karen |

This filled my heart so tears leak out my eyes. As a poem, it's wonderful... the last line is such an incredible image... and the perfect ending for a beautiful rhyme. As a tribute, it's filled with the kind of love and respect and empathy we can only hope someone, somewhere feels for us... the "knowing" is rendered so tenderly. It's a tremendous success as either poem or tribute - as both, it simply takes my breath away. |

I came in tonight with a bit of a heavy heart. My Mom is failing fairly fast at this point. It gave me pleasure to see her poem on the boards still. Thank you for reading and replying. Thank you for your kind thoughts. xoxox Alison |
