Teardrops of morning dew linger, quietly, on autumn leaves and a dying summer has long past. In the distance, the gray sky has grown darker, a prelude, to the bleakness, of a winter, yet to come. Within the deepest depth of the forest, where mighty oak trees stand, there is an old burned out cabin and buried memories of a man. He often hunted that deep dark wood, many long years ago, searching for mushrooms, muscadines and other morsels the forest seemed to grow. As a young boy, I wondered... How was the old hermit able to survive? Then, today, it came to me! as my teardrops lingered, quietly, on autumn leaves, with a realization...by will alone! I thought so, RV. Whilst there are some disadvantages to being a hermit, there are many, many advantages . . . from one who knows both . . . Owl |

The human species, as most other species have a built-in mechanism which kicks into gear when we are confronted with a challenge to our survival. The hermit and his selection of mushrooms, etc., which kept him alive and mobile. Everyone has the built in mechanism and it will do the same for us when it is needed. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Hmmm...Owl, if not our perceptions, what is reality? I see "disadvantages" as challenges...they become motivations. I believe, for me, it has been necessary to step away and perceive "the other side of the coin". However, I do learn vicariously...but sometimes "feel the need" for direct experience. In some ways, I believe you have been there, too, and therefore, understand. A poem is like a fishing lure...some will be drawn to it...some will not! |

Actually, yes, you are right RV. It's a lot you say there, and I seldom agree with somebody on so many points, but I do agree with all you say here. I, too, see disadvantages as challenges - I just worded it inaccurately. I suppose I thought that you were seeing the non-advantages as disadvantages and I was too busy trying to put across the advantages to concern myself with how I worded the other. Smiles. Owl |

As a reclusive social butterfly, I truly enjoyed this perspective, and love most especially the thoughtful last line. Very interesting, as those who seem to have a preference for solitude so often become suspect as natural curiousities by others can become tainted with the exaggeration as malice is projected on to them in seeming preference of a boring truth--that some simply choose no company to bad company. (I had to think hard about that sentence.)  Enjoyed. |

I like what you said, Karen, but it isn't exactly no company, but the company of onself and that can be company indeed, if one is happy with who one is (or at least more or less, lol - or, giggles, if one is schizophrenic, it could be company with many people, more lol). Owl |

Lady Goodman (Karen) and Owl, I enjoy your thought patterns. Finding warmth with another is important for the transport of "the chromatic thread of life" but "the hermit existence", in an idioverse, is an alternative...and I believe it is in that universe of self where we ultimately reside. An old friend, Saul Rosenzweig, led me along the path of idiodynamics a long time ago... |

Popping back in to share the giggle with Owl! I just read the biography of John Nash, and wished to share his thoughts on his recovery, because ihe did say that while it was true that he chose to simply ignore his delusions, he was also fortunate to have had compassionate social structure. He knew he was lucky to have been deemed "worthy" of extraordinary patience by his friends and loved ones. My apologies, rv--I wanted to share that because I felt it applied to the subject. |

Lady G...no apology necessary...John Nash is an excellent example of a schizophrenic or bipolar disordered personality that overcame enforced rationality with intellectual rejection. He had a will within self, far stronger than others, to overcome...in fact...both a strong will and a beautiful mind. |

Apologies, too, to RV, for the communication with Karen - thanks Karen for "sharing the giggle" - when I read it, I wanted to look up John Nash on the Internet, so I could understand better, but was drowning in work - have now completed that database, and will still look up John Nash, but understand better already thanks to RV's reply to you.
