Where Winters Come The park is a place of overhanging trees with sidewalks leading to benches covered by leaf-made canopies. Sidewalks smoothed by slow-walking lovers trying not to stop and grasp and hold . . . -ing hands tightly squeezed. Sidewalks where running feet step on tears when grasp and hold . . . -ing hands lose their grip. The park is you and I a night of memories in the grass just before . . . goodbye. The park - where winters come. © wesley james beard, jr. september, 2012 |

[quote}just before . . . goodbye. The park - where winters come[/quote] The ending of this, with a goodbye and the chill of the winter tell the whole story of the poem. Nostalgic and sad, but even so, memories, sad or not have some redeeming value. At least you wrote the poem about it. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

touched my heart, especially the two different images of holding of hands. relating the good-bye to winter's arrival very powerful the tears on the sidewalk from the hands unclasping priceless Whether on the shoal or on the shore, I'll seek the lighthouse evermore. |
