I steal away into the night, Black as the heavens with no stars, With back against the wall I fight, I know the battle will leave scars. In the hard grasp of misused words, I stand my ground, my fists are tense, Dark is the night, something has stirred, I hate to wait filled with suspense. I'd be safe away from this place, A craven coward all my days, The time is now that I must face, And I have no choice but to stay. It matters not what is my end, I take what happens like a man, I control my destiny friend, Dark are the forces where I stand. ©August 27, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

The last verse reminds me of "Invictus"... Your back may be against the wall, but you've drawn your line in the sand. Excellent write! |

Comparing the few lines of my poem to "Invictus" is indeed a welcomed thought, suthern, and I very much appreciate it. Thank you. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

It can seem a dark place when you're back's against the wall, and there's nothing left to do but fight... but, really, what's the alternative? Wear your scars proudly, friend. They tell us who you really are. Michael |

This makes me picture an episode out of "Angel" or "Supernatural"... There is always light within the darkness -- it's just a matter of focus... Nice imagery and full of thought... -MVS You CAN make a difference, but first you should learn how: |

yes, I do share my scars, Karen, some would say I share too much. It was the writing of my poems concerning my past life that made it possible for me to forgive myself and get on with what is left for me. Thank you for stopping by. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |
