Taking the Back Road |

metallic blue oil deposit floatin' in the water speedboat sped by making violent drafts against the creeks' bank dust devil swirled and spun in the moon-lit air; its funnel widened whipped by the wind disappeared slime-coated wooden planks ran alongside the creek on the other side plank road built for getting to and from an oil well some previous time narrow gravel road we're on coils like a shoelace winding and unmarked barely one vehicle wide bordered by a forest on the other side up ahead a shabby building rusted tin roof dented and pocked and mossy naked, half-naked chil'ren played in nighttime dirt little further down bucket-of-blood joint peeling white paint Budweiser sign proclaimed NIP 'N SIP faded American flag whipped and snapped like a locker room towel. two skinny, shirtless specimens leaned against the bar long-necks in hand honeysuckle and wisteria covered the barbed wire surrounding the place softening it, but not making it pretty moon was ice-white almost daylight cheerful sky pulsed with stars frosting the trees giving life at the end of the world ©February 1, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Jerry...this sounds just like the road to my house; I can see it SO clearly, and smell the honeysuckle in the air. (one of my favorite smells btw, next to jasmine and orange blossoms) |
