WEALTH 8 April 2012 Lush colours of nature’s palette master-blended, the backdrop to avian secrets shared and tremulously received; lazy cloud shapes hold my gaze as they move and change their shapes and have their being; flutter-breeze tickles a million leaves into waving to it and me and all who care; Eager canine paws and closed-eye feline purrs and four adoring and adored eyes . . . have I died and gone to Heaven? Hadedahs shattering nature’s whispers with their raucous and much-loved infectious laughter; blue-headed lizard basking in the sun safely out of sight of my dog who does blue-headed lizard patrols at incredulous puppy speed; butterflies of all colours and sizes take their turn one by flutter-butter one, on the centre stage; my two most faithful washingline wasps, rebuilding their home mostly-demolished in high winds; children nextdoor singing Happy Birthday with unabated joy; birds skimming the sky high overhead and others descending with miniscule accuracy on a tree performing their tiny ablutions; all this in my own back garden; how rich and bountiful is life and how blessed I am; the rat-race hustle and bustle of life and all its problems are dispersed in this Easter Sunday showering of gratitude and peace; the sun gilding all I see. I wrap all this up in my arms and take it inside to paint the rest of my working day with the beauty of nature’s glory, and peace and harmonious companionship. Owl |

I read this early this morning and lost my reply in cyber space, with a tempermental keyboard at my fingertips. I felt the wings in this write, even the wasps, which make me shudder. The imagery is so colorful. I was glad your puppy didn't find the lizard, but I wondered at the color. Blue never occured to me. In spring, I see salamanders and frogs doing their dance across the wet avenues and roads in the car headlights at night. But lizards like the warm weather, and we don't find them here...except for a large pet one of the teacher had in his classroom. I think the title is perfect. The joy permeates and the abundance of nature leaves me smiling. |

Thank you, Karen, for your very appreciative, beautiful, rich, detailed and fascinating reply especially for coming back a second time, after losing your first one. If you had an email address button, I would see if I have a good representative photo of a blue-headed lizard and send it to you. If you have an email address, but don’t want to add it on Pip, just click on my email button and give it to me in an email and I will send the best photo I can find. I have taken several photos of my blue-headed friends. My waspy friends aren’t shudderful. There aren’t many and I have only been stung once – on the ear and it was quite funny – wrote a poem about it and posted it sometime within the last year – can’t quite remember the title, though - I have just looked it up - it is called: The Story of a Reindeer, an Aeroplane and a Temporary Princess. It wasn’t the wasp’s fault. I turned round and walked right into the unsuspecting little sweetie, and then, to add insult to injury, I instinctively brushed him/her away before seeing who he/she was, so quite rightly, in his/her defence, he/she stung (instinctively too!) the huge human attackeress. Amaryllis, I am very deeply happy and grateful that my poem could bring you peace and gratitude, especially in the light of your poem to which I have just replied. Thank you, Ida! Yes, this is the only true wealth – and one that brings a great measure of happiness in the scariest of monetary stresses. Thank you, Jo, for your kind words. Yes, it scrapes my insides raw that so many people are blind and deaf and oblivious to their olfactory, taste and touch senses and emotions when such natural wealth is right there all around them, even in the dirtiest, grimiest, industrial areas. The waste of that beauty on them also frustrates me – and here, I am not talking about from their point of view, but the waste of the beauty itself which could have been so much more appreciated.
