Summer Harvest Wheat turns golden in summer heat Ripens and ready to harvest Fields turn blue with flax seed flowers Mustard seed flowers shine yellow Science blends mustard and rape seed Creating canola for miles Farmers prepare for summers work Making repairs to the combines Hiring truck and semi drivers Watching crops for just the right time Praying the weather will hold true Left at the summer heats mercy Wheat light yellow in gentle breeze Rye a deeper gold fills sections Canola becomes a bright yellow Sweet corn stretches for miles Children run mazes in the fall Beets are turned into pure sugar The food basket is full this year Our crops are rich and bountiful Nature blesses us with our needs Harmony spreading through the land As great-full hearts sing out their thanks And families gather round the hearth Is there anything that compares To farmers and helpers working To feed mankind over the world From sunup to way past sundown Taking in the crops that feed us During a late summer harvest Karen Mc Neil July 29, 2012 |

This is a wonderful tribute to the growers of food for the billions throughout the world, Karen. A one-two-three punch of planting, cultivating, and harvesting. Great poem. Great energy here. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Startime, it must be a wonderful feeling to be one of those workers harvesting fields of golden wheat. I bet they sleep well. Owl |
