I meandered aimlessly ...'mid pillared aisles of oak When from the darkness straight ahead, ...a single word was spoke The speaker was to me unknown, ...I knew not where he lay Nor why the word was spoken, ...as I quickly made my way Jumping roots and fallen limbs, ...hurriedly I sped Towards the voice that spoke no more, ...to seek what lie ahead Through the woods temerariously, ...into the night precarious Thinking not of consequence; ...of aim perchance nepharious Up ahead a clearing, ...a secluded glen within the trees I tripped upon half buried rock, ...I fell unto my knees And gazed above to welkin skies, ...up to the firmament Knowing not the meaning; ...knowing not why I was sent. |

Okay, I just finished a Peter Straub book by the name of "Mrs. God," and this poem fits right into the eerie place where the book takes place called Esswood. I thoroughly enjoyed the rhyme sequence and the impact the poem had upon my reading of it. It was excellent. Excellent! ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Quite a poem. More. More. "The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation."-Vladimir Lenin |

A magical journey this was. Especially love the ending... perhaps stumbling unto that welkin vault. At least that's where it lead my imagination. Once there, the "why's" seemed of little import. Much enjoyed. Michael |
