I lie on this blackened bed, Trapped in a corner of night, Clawing at the pain in mind, Desperate to take flight. Above me, unreachable goal, Tapestry of blue and white, I reach with shaking hand, Wishing to hold to the light. My broken wings get no lift, My body dead weight in this hole, I flap and flap furiously, Unable to reach my goal. A broken mirror mocks my life, Tears running into a dark pool, Sadness smothers the flames of hope, And I become another broken weeping fool. Formations within distant clouds Mould into hands beckoning me, Drying the river beneath my pupils, I reach for the blue sky of the free. Wings of hope form firm at my back, A gust of hope follows through, Deep breath taken as I stand on the edge, Before I leap into the dew. Frantically I flap my wings, No lift carries me above, I cry and shout in horror, No graceful flight of the dove. I grit my teeth and join the flow, The air brushing me ashore, Land in sight I defy my fear, Will fuels my wings and I soar. The darkened poisoned land, A distant speck in a sky so vast, Golden sun and succulent air Make me rise above my past. The chains of my condition Grounded me for so long, Now I fly free in a new world, The wind serenade a delightful song. All the time I spent trapped, Doing nothing but cry, One dream gave me hope, That I could learn to fly. On white wings of eternal hope I soar above the misery, Onwards to glory I advance, Driven by my new found glee. |

"One dream gave me hope, That I could learn to fly." You have learned to fly... in the most wonderful way. Enjoyed your poem, Ms. E |

Hope is rewarded in the end. Great! I was born when she kissed me, |
