A lifetime spent in a headlong chase, Ignoring the track I had laid to waste. Until, in my much later years, I glanced back and through my tears, I begged my youth to pause with thought. Ere that I could reverse my track, And correct my errors by going back, To reverse the pain I had caused each day, To those who had been in my way, And suffered from the pain I wrought. The past rewards us for what it’s worth, The pain comes home to its place of birth. The road we’ve paved guides our past, To our future where the memories last, Where old pains burn twice as hot. Forgiveness eases each new remorse, But it doesn’t divert pain’s searing course, As I contemplate what I have done, With careless words slipped from my tongue. Grace is mine, but its peace is not. Take care, my friends, with kind intent, Your memories are permanent. The ones you love may forgive your ways, But you will not in your later days, When deep regrets are all you’ve got. When deep regrets are all you've got. |

If I had made any errors in my past, I could relate to this poem....which means I can't Very nice philosphical view, sailor. If life were filled with mulligans we could all shoot a better score. Unfortunately, it's not and there are times we are actually responsible for our own action, although many people these days disagree with that line of thought. |

Right on Mike. Not only is youth wasted on the young, but wisdom comes too slowly to some young for them to appreciate it. [This message has been edited by LngJhnAg (04-01-2010 03:29 PM).] |

This is the first time I have read one of your poems and I must say I was very impressed. It was a delight to read, you crafted it so well. Thanks for sharing. Lindsay |

Wise old owl you! The older we get it's funny how all the wicked things we have done come back to haunt us. It is sad, that we got so busy in life that we never remember until it is almost too late. A wonderfully wise poem LJn. |

Thanks, Lindsay. It has been awhile since I've written any poetry, so I have to warm up a little. I used to write a lot and most of it is in th archives on this site. |

Thanks, Mysty one. There are times when I catch myself saying out loud, "Stop!" as I recall things I have done. How have you been? |
