The Shepherd and the Wolf What is a shepherd And where was he? When little red riding hood Walked down the dark forest trail Where hungry wolves and thieves thirst For the antidote to their lust So what is the difference between the dreams and nightmares When at night children are told to forget the skeletons And what gos bump in the night? I am trying to link the poem together and how little red riding hood being devoured by a wolf is connected with dreams and nightmares. I missed the transition. Perhaps you mean that the dream is like the wolf in sheep`s clothing? I must say however that the imagery is vivid and leaves a picture in the mind. |

I am sorry. The parents are suppose to shepherd children to become functional adults, but instead we are taught to hold the pain inside. -Juju |

I'm a father of three, and I remember my night fears when a child and, more so, I remember those nights I had to comfort my little ones, and not leave them till I was sure their fears were abated. Sitting for a while with the light on would usually bring restful sleep, and I'd stumble back to my bed . . . I am attuned to the premise of your thoughtful poem. Regards -- Art |

As I read your post, it reminds me of parents cautioning their little ones to distance themselves from strangers...then plunking them in Santa's lap. How strange is that? Rae |

Dear juju, I like this one lots. People put corks in the emotional wine bottle too often. Fall in love early, fall in love often. |

I personally think that the wolves and thieves don't thirst for the antidote to their lust, but to drink it in all the more greedily. Like a drug addict. Great stuff Juju. |

Perhaps I missed the point, here, but I don't think that guiding children through the natural tendency toward "irrational" fears, is an act of suppressing their normal development toward a healthy maturity. And I do not think that fantasy is necessarily harmful. But I must admit that sometimes my thinking cap is turned backward when I read a poem! Art |
