Solstice in the Spring I’ve never written of solstice in the spring, possibly because Easter tends to take up and pass over, and even though I have spoken of potential planting, have ruminated over ponderous thoughts of growth [of potential, love, life] and diminution [of snow, rain, gray days] I’ve never written of solstice in the spring. I’ve written of summer, winter, even fall has seen the leaf of pages spent holding my scribbling, still, I wonder why? Had I been far too busy in my past lives, or was I just feeling buried under the burdensome of nothing yet warm enough to sprout thought? But then, I have never written of certain faults that I own, and I have never shared special confidences known only to me and thee… and I haven’t ridden a horse in years… nor worn high heels in a bejeweled gown… and I’ve never written of solstice in the spring. I wonder when that will change. © KRJ 11 March 2010 [This message has been edited by Sunshine (03-12-2010 04:13 PM).] |

I love the way the vernal equinox is juxtaposed against the solstices of summer and winter, a dynamic tension between the beginnings of seasons, and what those seasons bring in their endless cycles. The repetition is very effective, especially when the poet pauses to wonder if she'll finally make that change, and there is irony here, since the solstices of winter and summer pervade the mood of the poem! Very effective, and a most enjoyable read, Sunshine! Thanks for the poem, -- Art [This message has been edited by gilead (03-12-2010 06:50 PM).] |

Effective use of repetition throughout the piece but what most got me was the final stanza. Something for me to learn here. |

Sissie...though it is not here yet, your anticipation in this poem is part of what spring is all about. When we anticipate spring, we anticipate new beginnings in so many ways. You bloom too. |

And she wonders...Sunshine does, you know, at what you saw, took away, or even might have felt for the moment... but she is pleased... for Spring is close, close... I know, because the Tulips told me so. Thank you to all who have read, even if you haven't responded. That's okay. That's the way poetry is meant to be. |
