The Problem of Drink |

THE PROBLEMS OF DRINK Drink in moderation is a balm for the soul, It makes you want to relax and be merry, Try a dry Chardonnay at the end of the day Or perhaps you might like a sip of sweet Sherry. Alcohol affects people in quite different ways, Some drink it and lose all inhibitions, Some folk enjoy it at only irregular displays While others guzzle it in abhorrent conditions. Drinks there are many that may meet your design And some are far more potent than others, But the road to decline if you drink too much wine Is not a pathway planned out by your mother? A cold glass of beer on a searing hot day Is often said to be nectar from heaven, It sooths the taste buds and thirst slips away. Especially if it’s followed by seven. But too many drinks have a harmful effect, Whether it be whiskey or brandy or gin, They will slowly erode your own self-respect And you’ll finish up in life’s rubbish bin. When you sum up the abuse of alcohol use And see to what lengths of despair that drunks sink, When these notes you compare, it makes you aware Of the terrible problems that’s created by drink. Yo Lindsay, Alcoholism has more to do with the genes than with overindulgence. Some people will take just a small drink, and continue to drink. These people must stay away from even a small drop of booze. If they stay completely clean they will be fine. It’s hard for them to do, but not impossible. Bobby |

My grandma used to say, "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy". It was hard to argue with her! |

Thanks Bobby,I think you could be right, take diarrhea for instance, that runs in your genes, as well as a lot of things. Dear Dixie, thank you for reading my poem and I hope your problem is not a serious one, it can be destructive, good luck. Thanks Mike, your grandma sounds like a wise old lady and perhaps not far wrong. It certainly would be hard to argue against. Lindsay |

This says so much. My childrens father was killed by a drunk driver. (His own brother) who wasn't even hurt. I have seen first hand what strong drink can do. Billie C. |

James , you certainly hit the nail on the head there my friend. Three quarters of all accidents here are caused by drink or drugs. Dear Billie I feel so sorry to here of your personal tragedy. no matter how long ago it happened it is a terrible cross to bear. My prayers are with you. love. Dear Ida you are a very wise woman and although drink in moderation can be quite enjoyable, some times total abstinence is the best. love Jimmy my good friend, at least he only had himself to blame and having an argument with a bus is not a real brigt thing to do. Thanks to you all. Lindsay |

I have and had friends that have abused alcohol and it has caused them trouble in various degrees. Speculating on the underlying causes is outside my relm but it is safe to say that those who have trouble with alcohol should abstain from it. |
