Choose from Any I am one of many A character of line Sometimes I am dull and flat Passion, unrefined… Then a poet takes a pen And whips me a desire That is when I in bend Begin to light the fire I become a syllable, Then lent an adjective I begin a storied verse Then begin to live For I am of the alphabet Alone, I am not much But if you shall give me wing Then a heart I’ll touch Start with any language And scribble me astray For if left on whitest page I shall surely stay Let your ink leak liquid Let your verses flow Take my many characters Allow your heart to show Imagination! Take over, From mountain peak to vale Let the words ring louder Give the billows sail! Start each wondrous day anew Share with every one your view Spread the shimmering drop of dew Share emphatic, “I love you” For I am of the alphabet Alone, I am not much But if you shall give me wing Then a heart you’ll touch ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 3 March 2002 |

This really makes me take pause as to how something as simple as letters strung together in certain patterns become words and sentences and then verses and an entire poem, and somehow invokes emotion in the reader, causes them to feel something. It truly is amazing isn't it? As are you Sunshine. |

Karilea - Unfortunately Toerag takes your advice and randomly (apparently) selects letters, adjectives, nouns, etc., and slaps them together into "poems" that disparage poor Balladeer. BTW - I really like your poem. |

And that you do! Touch my heart! I would love to have command over letters in a way that didn't make me halt midstream and wonder if it what I penned were pure jibberish. This is a beauty and a keeper. Let the sails billow. Karilea, you are a lovely soul! It's easy to write the letter, but the heart of the words is truly hearing art. H E A R T Sweet symphony of spirit! ~Karen |

Karilea? May I gush a tiny bit? I LOVE this poem. I saved it faster than you can snap your fingers. You inspired me and I loved how your words flowed so easily off my eyeballs. Yep, I love this poem. Love you too, A |

Still got it, after all these years. I liked it. Great rhythm, the little stanzas are very suited to the subject. Like something you could sing while doing jump rope. Casual is a good word for it. Poetry comes easy to you, by now, I'm sure. So this poem is very much something that you'd learned well enough for it to be a neat little rhyme that you carry around with you. I like your poetry, Sunshine, and I'm glad I got the chance to read this. It made me very happy. "To me, the thing that art does for life is to clean it, to strip it to form." |

I once had an idea for a poem about collocations and I was planning on calling it `Collocate Me`. So I can understand where you are coming from with this poem, as letters like collocations are the foundation of a language that we take for granted! |
