Out of the yard Into the streets Heavy with snow . . . I arrive at the railroad Tracks, a long trail Into dreams . . . I walk along them For a while, then Comes the train . . . I count the cars As fast as I can As they clack and rumble by . . . The train disappears Around the bend, as the vanishing Caboose makes me lonely . . . It has carried away the longing Of my heart, and has left Me the remnant of fear . . . I must hurry now, or I’ll be late for algebra, And the fan belt, stinging My frozen palm. It hurts, And makes me angry, as I war Against tears in the presence of girls . . . But, then, there’s English class, Miss Johnson, young, and so beautiful. I am in love, and she likes me! And in her presence, there is no pain, Just the hurried rhythm Of a giddy, schoolboy’s heart! |

Every former schoolboy and schoolgirl has a life with many stories, waiting to be told. ---Art [This message has been edited by gilead (03-04-2010 11:37 AM).] |

I love the imagery and emotions you convey in this piece, dear Art. I used to count the wagons of the trains too ... Beautiful! Love, Margherita |

I like the imagery of this piece. While there are no train tracks in my memory there was a cute girl in third grade. Thanks for bringing forth a pleasant memory. |

Thanks, Earl. I too fell in love in third grade, and fourth, and fifth, and on and on!---the young, hopeless romantic, without portfolio! Best wishes--- Art |
