In a shrunken-world reality, I lived the anticipation with shirt-quivering, ruby beats. She played a waiting game, careless to her imminent genesis, stalling her arrival through your wincing, stifled tunes. I wiped the damp-haired, not-quite-a-mother drops from your oscillating brow. Your pain: the bitter aperitif to a meal of twinned euphoria. Your gift: my elevation to the plain of the eternally grateful; our reason for unification at the casual-chance convergence of destinies. Like an eager trip-seeker, I broke the phial for the man between your legs, and as he stitched, your pain was gone. You held her with your hard-earned, mother eyes, then held her out to me as it rushed over, and through me: a tsunami of emotion; a sweeping sense of wonder. And in that moment.... I embraced The Great Magician. |
