A soldier Is alone A soldier is standing In falling snow It is Christmas Eve The base at night Is dark and silent Except for lights On a single Christmas tree Orders have come A few days from now The soldier is leaving Going off to war From some distant place In childhood memory A woman is singing An old Christmas song One must be alone To make his peace A break in the clouds A single star Only this moment matters Whatever happens Will happen A solider is standing A soldier is standing In the falling snow . |
