I walk along the upward path with trees
as walls, 'arboured away from awful winds,
the apples crushed under my feet or rolling
toward the iron gate that traps the waste.

The smell that lurks beneath the leaves so fresh
fermenting apples; green and red turned brown
I love the smell and love as much the sound
Of squish and squelch and crunch beneath my feet.

The season brings about the change of warm
to cold, with rain and wind and barren land.
This last hurrah before the spring can come
is cider, pressed by passing student’s feet.

In such an ugly time, beauty is the real protest

Lovely moment captured Peter.

I too love that smell, it's the blessing of the harvest season......He he and the cider's real tasty too...(smile)

So much to look forward to as the globe spins through the seasons.

Good work!

Eric

I think Eric said it like it is, you absolutely nailed the wonder of seasons, and all they have to offer.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Nice poetry about the changing of the season and looking forward to another.

To mimic is a form of praise unless
you have no thoughts of your own

you've sparked a lot of memories here with this wonderfully penned verse ... the number of orchards are dwindling these days, as most of the apple juice now comes from China (why)
... anyway, we used to serve hot apple cider with cinnamon sticks at skating parties on the frozen pond at the farm ... we'd circle the hay bales and light the bonfire

You brought forth a lot for the olfactory senses, Peter...thank you for the smells!

cool stuff grey'...out here it is the fermenting strawberries in the fields that scent the air and make one want to change directions.  I do enjoy the leaves underfoot in autumn....like they are applauding my steps in celebration that I am still walking around.
