Two little boys,
big brothers,
proprietary bound,
surround Nicholas, six pounds
of new presence delivered
just in time for Christmas.

(Note:  5th GREAT granchild, 1 week old today.  His brothers are Aiden 3, and Aaron 2.  The tender delight those rambunctious little boys show Nicholas could melt stone.)

...and just in time for St. Nicholas's Day!

I know the feeling---your poem strikes a chord here. As for light, though, please pardon me for observing that the interstices of time and space are dancing with unearthly light.

Amaryllis, I couldn't agree more!

easy1,  your observation is very astute.  I don't think I could say it better.  Angels intervene here. There is a wonder.

flash, He's not mine, but thank you.  I realize more and more how much we are on borrowed time with children.  They are all too soon no longer small.

Jerry, They all are, but there is an essence within these little ones that overwhelms me with the power of innocence.

Martie...

The world could take lessons from those litte ones.

And Karen!  Thank you!  Continuity indeed, but I wonder where the years went looking at them.

Wow! The fifth that's super!
My daughter, my only child, is now pregnant at the age of 36 so I am finally going to become a grandad.
I'm excited of course. I'm actually acting quite silly happy foolish and I'm going to have to kill the other grand parents so I can have the little fella all to myself.....(wicked grin)

He he I really enjoyed the feeling of love in this.

Take care

Sunshine, your birthday was the 29th?  I knew you had one recently. I didn't know which day.  Will happily pass along the kisses.  I still haven't gotten to hold him with so many around, but I did get to spend a little time talking softly to him one day. I can't get over how tiny he seems to me.  Another of his grandmothers told his brothers she was going to take Nicholas home with her (she lives next door to them).  Aiden 3 got between her and the door, and said, "You put that baby DOWN now!"   hehe.

ALISON... our Christmas was hectic and joyful and blessed.  Thank you, dear heart.  I loved watching the little ones open their gifts.  Such excitement!  I remember waiting for Christmas morning to arrive as a child, but it seems a mighty long time for a four-year-old to wait for Christmas Eve when we usually come together for gifts after dinner.  Bailee was very good, but I almost couldn't stand to watch her waiting.  She helped trim the tree, and she was getting tired by the time dinner was over.  I think morning is easier for the kids, when they aren't tired and have the day to play.

Eric, I can tell you are going to adore your grandchild.  hehehe... but ya gotta share!  You'll be more than happy to when the baby is wet or hungry.   It is an tender experience, though, getting to know those wee ones.  I wish your daughter and the baby an easy and harmonious birth. Will be waiting to hear when it happens.   ~Karen

Wow, dear Karen, this is just delightful! And I enjoyed to read through all the replies and your comments. Congratulations. I have three grandsons too, 14 months, 3 years and 6 1/2 years old. Had them on the videophone. Life is busy with three little ones, but such a blessing!

Love and joy.

Margherita, I'm glad you get to visit them that way.  What a great invention.  When I was very small, my grandma's phone was a box that hung on the wall, and the mouth piece was part of the box.  They had operators that connected them and the neighbors shared time and could listen in if they wanted to simply by picking up their receivers. Now, every one of my older grandchildren have phones with querty keyboards, talk across continents on computers, and think nothing of it. They are actually bored a lot by it all, and take being in touch for granted, where as I was so excited to get to see my grandparents because it was an adventure   in love.  LOL  We really are blessed to be part of their lives.

And I'm smiling to think that I get to know you and the others here a little because we could share something happy from our lives!   ~K
