The ring swings round; it seems not proud
of what it stood for, how it was,
and how it turned away from love
in its time of no awareness.

I turn it back to face the world
like one who knows there is no shame
in doing, being, like the rest
patterned to conformity.

I know it's weighted down by woe
for it turns around most every day
but it could be me in wilful act
of simply letting go.

I take it off sometimes to be
in my own identity
and in that time of rest it lies
content on the sidelines.

Not one to tolerate a lie
I maybe in contrariness
force on that ring a punishment
but it knows there's no such thing.

The ring still swings, I turn it round;
it's just a way to say I'm glad
that once upon a time
there was love between a mum and dad!

Ouch! Last verse. You write about life and its intricate paths and trails as good as any I've run across. As we used to say in the turbulent sixties, albeit with a different spelling, "Write-On."

. . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(&#!$!

It is sad, and perhaps all too real for many.
You always say it like it is, and that often times leaves me without words.

Hugs, honey!  It's almost Sunday!!

You write so beautifully, and this poem has inspired me to share a little story--I hope you don't mind.

After the Lord of The Rings Trilogy broke records for its artistry, I bought myself a present. I bought that ring of Power--the ring of invisibility, and replaced my wedding band and engagement ring with that.

I happened to tell my son and his girlfriend this story, since she had questioned me about it, and my son said it was the funniest, saddest thing I'd ever said or done--ever.

I hope that you understand that my story sharing is also my hobbit way of hugging you and letting you know that I understand.

Your poetry is always immaculate and a gift.

Dear Bluesy,  Oh, yes, Sunday stories - the good old days!  This "lady" seems to have more Mondays than Sundays now but that doesn't seem to stop the stories from flowing.  For my sins, yes?     Thank you, lovely one, for reading and commenting.

Hi SB - I disagree with your son because there's nothing funny about it but he is spot on with the sad.  I too understand and all too well I might add.  Thank you so much for your kind comment about my "poetry".  It is greatly appreciated.

Oh, well, on with my Sunday - it is Sunday here now.

I'm sorry, Jerry, for not acknowledging your comment.  Thanks and, yes, I'll probably write on although I think it's time for a break.

VERY well said!

... and there are likely WAY too many of us out here amid
the "Runaway American Dream" who clearly/deeply understand ...
[unfortunate 'modern world(wide)' commonality of relationship
experiences; etc.]

a most effective 'penning' !!

You just carry me along and then hammer me out of the flow of your words.  Know what I mean?  I have always sought out your poetry - and am so glad that I didn't miss this one.

Thank you, Bruce, for your much appreciated comment.

Hi Alison - Sorry about the "hammering" but, hey, there seems never to be a continual easy flow to anything in life.     Thank you so much for reading my rambles.

Helen

The last verse is a real reality check but perfect in it's simplicity for closure of sorts.
Granted, the relationship you are writing about didn’t become all that was hoped. But remember this: In the middle of a storm, it’s easy to focus on the dark sky and the pouring rain. Eventually, though, the rain stops and the sky clears and that's what your poetry does.....Makes it all clear.

It's a precious love decongestant. Dr Eric, love doctor...............

Excellent!

Oh dear, doctors aren't my favourite people at the moment but I reckon I can add Dr. Eric to my phone list.

Thanks, Eric.

Don't know what time it is over there, I didn't look but it's early here and these trips into the many perspectives of the poets here tend to wake me up (if that's humanly possible) and give me something to ponder over during the day...

So chin up and soak in some sun for me over there. It's cold up here in Canada!

Sending sun your way, Eric.  We had one of our usual thunder storms last night but it's beautifully clear and bright today.  It's nearly 11.00 am here now.  I don't know how you guys survive your winters.  I'd die!

Helen...amazing how we make *things* so important.  Perhaps because then it is in our power to change the meaning.  Or can we?  Hugs!!

Helen,

I was unclear - I am sorry if I sounded negative.  You write so beautifully .. it was this poem that hammered me.  I think you got hammered and illustrated the feeling very well in your poetry.  I am not one to critique.  I only know how I feel ... and your poetry makes me feel.

Love,
Alison
