Louise’s Hours

The mental promise I gave her
was that I would not waste time.
She hadn’t. Why should I?
She never seemed to waste a moment.
But right now, wasting time
seems to be the comfort I need. So, I write.

She didn’t know then of the unspoken promise;
like I said, it was mental.

I always marveled her time management,
way of focus, her stride from
day to day physical conundrums.

Yet, there was not a moment spent
when the compliment of time management
was thrown right back at me, by her.

I had to silence my shaking head at times;
she is only being gracious
I would think to myself.
And yet, she would list my schedule that
I had somehow implied, step by step
during our conversations over lunch, or wine,
and I marveled at her recollections.

I was astonished as well at her collection of books.
Time worthy, existential stuff that some of it was;
all that abounded shelves and there could
have been spent an “oh my” wonder or two
over the array of what could have been considered
eccentric combinations.

Theorists. Poets. Biblical, both Jewish and Franciscan
not to mention Catholicism. Rhetorical,
fantastical, romanticism, and… me.
Essayists, novelists, leaders, entertainers,
archivists, spiritualists, and…
me.

How she came to lend herself to me
will always be a best kept secret,
even from
me.

And now, the wash…and I know….she smiles.

In keeping with JayCee’s request, “write about Louise”.

It is a difficult thing to not waste time and to those who are expert at it seem to come from another sphere. I, as do the rest of us here, write. Novels and poetry, short stories. I hate to spend wasted hours, minutes even, but I know I do. Someone said something to the effect once that, "A writer, even when he is looking out the window, is writing."

This tribute to someone I do not know is excellent as is everything of yours I have read. That last line . . . "wash" . . . intrigues me.

. . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(&#!$!

There's something about this that ...well?

It is uniquely Kari, but is also begging a smudge on the hopscotch line.

There are lines that are looser than your usual proper, and I like that very much.

If unintentional, a happy accident, but it did remind me of getting accidentally tanked over lunch.

Enjoyed.

Sissie...You already know how much Louise enjoys your thoughts about her.  I'm sure the Monday nighters will too, as did I.

Jerry, I feel as if we are already friends of the art...I admire yours, and I'm pleased that you are reading me...thank you so very much...

Jo, just as I was thinking "this needs to stop..." you encourage me. Louise is smiling. Thank you.

Karen...I crossed a line. So did those we've talked about, Frances and Peggy. Don't you think it's time?

Martie...thank you so much for your help in so many ways... We always think we can do without asking for help...but it is never so.

Love to all...
