Charcoal the hours burn
A low glow of minutes spent as smoke
To rise first the thoughts and then the ache
Left as ash to the breath of wind
Scattered still
Upon black and white images
That can not reveal the colors
Of a soul
Bound in wraiths of steam
The mirror fogs and all I can glimpse
Are long fingers probing deep with the fire
Unquenched by rain or shower
To smolder

Within the seconds that bear sighs
Loose against flesh
Tied to the epiphany of a simple because
I find the swing of pendulum too much
Of the moment before a fall
Where with eyes turned toward
Cornflower sky ,wild sunflowers show the dark centers
In stare to belie that sumac now red in bleed of leaves
Finds ripe a time it too might be kindled for warmth
Of a few passing moments more
Before this the ends of September
Become a pyre of color

My eyes
Find in the depths of iris
Green

Not yet deemed dead enough to brown
Or with will to turn the tips of limbs into
Mellifluous tunes of gold or orange
Whispering easily an exhale of words to please ears
And salve eyes caught up in stares
Lined round the pit where hands grope through cold
To touch a bit of
Warm
The flames tender their own
Into the dust and ash

And days composed of parsed fuel for hearts
Are etched hard into the surface of walls
Leaving glyphs we can only guess
Without Rosetta’s stone

Gorgeous! The sumac is my favorite color of fall and I was just thinking about that last evening...I could smell and feel the fire in this one...EBM

Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc is a cave in France where cave drawings were discovered. Google it, and look at the images...
Sumac..is indeed lovely as it marches up the fence fow wearing it's brightly covered dress and sedicing the eyes.

thanks for the read ma'am....and your nice words.

a warm and comforting poem of fall

I am familiar with those glyphs. I have painted copies of some of them on my walls.
