The revolving door that is my life v Praze (in Prague)
locals, prospective lovers, friends, foreigners
they come and go,

leaving my homeland seeking permanence
and into a world, a city filled with buildings
that stand the test of time

and yet those in my life
most, not all
are ghosts,
like spirits that roam the streets at night

all passing through
appearing for a moment
a few hours
from time to time

but will one stay?

A prospective lover goes away
and suddenly, almost and sometimes
the next day
new ones appear

will one stay...

friends forged
foreigners climb aboard
teachers trained and leave

will one stay...

locals, friends
here v Praze
and tomorrow they're gone, in school, their village

will one stay...

one disappears,
one reappears
they appear seemingly from nowhere

will one stay...

locals, distanced somewhat cold and defensive
seemingly reluctant to let an outsider into their culture
some seeming racist, and others still unsure

will one stay...

all questions to be answered
questions of permanence and acceptance
only time will judge and tell the story

will one stay...

one of my oldest, closest friends, comes to visit
gets in a cab, to fly 5000 miles away
a building mate messages me in minutes to save the day

will one stay...

in a movie theater
my friend, my...
sees me, ignores me

will one stay...

all these events in a matter of hours
what comes next, what happens tomorrow
who will accompany me up Petrin tower

will one stay...

this revolving door
this center, this Staroměstská, this Old Town Square
wherever we are, we're all just tourists for a lifetime or for a day

will one stay...

They may choose to leave me
they may come and go
but this heart is my only permanence

and for now,
there's no doubt,
in this town
in this place

I WILL stay.

Gosh, your title is so fitting, each verse tells a story, and together it is quite fascinating.

Sounds like an interesting journey you're on and I'm so glad you share a part of it here.

Be well, be safe~

I can feel the despair, and the rote-like repetition reinforces the perception. Y'all haven't given up though, and in a big city that's especially good news. A perplexing and interesting write...

Sheez, what can one say except the only thing that I can personally recommend is workng out for those chick magnet looks and easy smiles. Oh, and don't pre-judge too much.

Looking forward to more chapters, please, hopefully radiantly happy ones! Surely such a crossroads city is not a complete wasteland!

Interesting story and good writing.

My hubby and I just returned from an 8 day visit to Prague with our son who lives there. It was our 3rd visit and each time we find more fascinating things to see. We have also been to Český Krumlov, which is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

P. S. martiniat8 - we did not climb Petrin Tower. It's way to scary. However, if you really need someone to climb with you, I will come back and do so!!

Thanks for the comments, everybody.

Hi Marti,
Thanks for the offer to go to Petrin. I've had people to take up there with me, but I'm waiting for the right one. Next time you do come here let me know, we'll get together. I haven't been to Ceske Krumlov yet, but I hear great things. Karlovy Vary is amazing and the Bone Church at Kutna Hora is something else too.
