Petr cried wolf too often
And the tale brought to word by Brother Grimm
Borrowed from the steppes a cautionary swirl of snow
Adding drama to the forest of Black where darkness lies at noon
But for the few clearings an axe man may have made
Dodging scattered bones left long ago from Rome

A hovel and her voice  aged wine
Brought warmth to a colder night when fire was welcome sight
To tired eyes and weary legs having trampled far to find
Her story told without rhyme or metered pause
But the same ablaze within wizened eyes

Wilhelm made his notes upon the page
Scribbling in the parts of other tales he had been told
Knowing that the snow outside was not deep enough yet to hide
The path that led deeper still into the side of life he thought
In time upon the once to own as his write
But lost within the space of vowels when the beauty
Had slept too long and left only the thin notes
Of a pipers song to lead such mice and children
To another end of pantheon

She made swift the sign of cutting throat
And Wilhelm felt his own constrict as caught up in her verbs
He forgot the scribe and took to heart the terms used
Describing doom as the crackle of sad laughter from her lips
As she relished in his small squirm
And stasis built into the distant roll of tumbling gods

“Would you stay the night good sir?”
She asked as she poured another glass
“Or would you venture out this night upon the path that leads
Through such dark and weathered woods?

He listened to the howl of wind against the limbs
And shuddered at his walk to come and answered her with small coin
“would night be the end?”
But thought unto himself he knew not how to leave
A promise as came from warmth he did not own
Nor did he think the path would lead to an ending
Wrapped of grape and lily leaf to wear as if a crown

In distant dark and dreary wood a howl was born of wolf
That only Wilhelm heard above the guttered sigh of candle flame
For she stared now into the fire and sipped upon the line of story told
To let memories burn in vein

“Another glass?” he whispered to her back
“Another drink of time?”
He heard again soft howl and let within hope build
She would in the end
Want him

This brought back some wonderful memories of the Grimm brothers...that, and the fact that their "fairy tales" were often based upon folk tales and in keeping with another thread in the forums, were often reduced to censorship in one form or another.

This is a

Ms Sun, yes, the Brothers Grimm were also victim of censorship at times, and there is little doubt, my retelling of them or the back story I imagine behind them would also be censored in some places.

I'm glad you found something in the scribble that brought back memories...

thank you

I think the Grimm Brothers applaud your work, dear Cpat, from their privileged observation point. A pen that acts like a hand and takes us into the scene.

Enthralling.

thank you ma'am..yes, I went back to it and edited before posting here. As it was initially written, I thought the ending pretty weak and perhaps the whole unclear..
hopefully the edits improved that a bit..

truly appreciate you taking time to look in on my scribble ma'am.
