Candyland and the Milkyway sound like the perfect places to go on one's birthday! Shucks, mine just passed! lol

Kerri, this is a sweet poem for your lucky friend. Wish her a "Happy Birthday" for me!

Kerri, I am absolutely fascinated by the Creole - it is unlike any language that I have ever read - are there different dialects of Creole?  Is this the same Creole as is spoken on Mauritius and the Seychelles?  If it is, I would have imagined that it would have a French influence, but it seems not to be the case at all.  I am sorry you don't have a voice recording of it because I would have loved to have heard it and followed the written words at the same time.  A strange coincidence is that I met a woman from the Seychelles today (before I read your poem) who has been in South Africa for 15 years, but she still has her gorgeous French accent.  She said she spoke French, English and Creole in the Seychelles.

Aha!  I tried to read it aloud and remembering your translation, I think I picked up 2 words influenced by French - gason = garçon? and toujou=toujours?

That ties up with Mauritian French for me - in both gason and toujou the "r" is left out completely - I had a friend at University who spoke Mauritian French, and some years later I had a Mauritian French boyfriend.  It took me a while to get used to French with silent "r"s and quaint turns of phrases.

Ah, that was fun!  I am sure I am right, but please tell me if I am not.
