Flaming youth, where have thou gone? Setting suns take longer to fade Than thy fire, now but glowing embers Once prominently displayed, Yet the heart remembers What a flame thee had made So suddenly did I realize your end Content to let the Earth keep turning Thy heat by slow degrees, With an ever gradual cooling of thy burning, Allowed the senses to freeze, All of which now, too late in learning Rekindle that which made thee proud To replenish the fuel by that which inspires Let not the flame fade slowly, For in lowering, lowers desire, Rather, make haste in making all things holy Until extinguished, burn ever thy fire |
