The nights are cooler now
even though we haven't seen
a drop of rain in days
and the land is still green.

Sitting outside with coffee
gives me a tinge of pain,
to be reminded of nights without you
when snow turned to rain.

Snuggling under the covers
by myself while you drive
thousands of miles east to west,
it's no way to feel alive.

Sometimes I'm happy with what I have,
content to believe I have the most
of what any woman could ever want,
but then, I feel like you're a ghost.

I believe in illusions,
wonder are you really there?
So sad to love from far away
but no one said that life is fair.

I will mind my days well
and I'll remain true,
though I spend darkness hurting,
waiting for you.

The land is still green, the love is still there - a beautiful sentiment eloquently expressed!

Even on the Corps of Discovery's journey, some few had to guard the keelboat while the others ran around flushing a prairie dog out to send back to Prez Jefferson. It was a necessary part of the entire task.

very well done ma'am... a soft sweet ache bolstered by the love underneath..
Love from a distance, is hard... absence is a tough kind of loneliness to absorb..

enjoyed..

Yet it is a loneliness that holds a concrete promise ... and you are aware of this blessing.

Very beautiful, dear Dixie.

Love,

If there's such thing as a beautiful ache, you've certainly captured it in your poem.

enjoyed!

Hmmm... very sorrowful. I can feel the emotion of it. Very nice job.

Oh, Dixie, you express those feelings so eloquently. You bring your readers into your world with a deft pen and a patient, loving heart. This was achingly beautiful.

Neither of you are ever truly alone with a love like yours and his.

Warm hug,

Linda

Life & love both are what we make of them, no? ... but I really felt that last verse, beautifully expressed.
