Old Photographs Looking back through old photographs I see you as I never have, memories so long gone they’re almost forgotten. My heart skips a few, my body warms, I wipe once dry eyes, smile at me, foolish me, so in love with you these many years; yet, almost forgetting the reasons why, until I looked back through old photographs, and cried. © wesley james beard, jr. august 2010 |

Love the "foolish me" double entendre - it takes real love and respect to joke like that... Old photo revisits can be intense, that's why, I guess, we keep them for long spur-of-the-moment intervals. |

Those pictures you write of are wonderful keepsakes, and yes they stir emotions of a time and place so long ago. For me it is a reminder of how quickly the years are passing, and how truly precious each and every day is. Love all the feelings your poem evokes. Hugs for you, jwesley~ |

I just finished scanning and processing about 2000 slides, all taken by my father-in-law (deceased several years now) between 1952 and 1990, and it was quite an emotional experience, especially the last 35 years worth (since I became a member of his family). And I have yet to convert them all to jpegs, put them on DVD's and send them to the family. I still have all my family's photos (no slides) to digitize and process and I think that's going to be harder still, emotionally. So much history, lots before my time, so many memories, during my time - one cannot view that much past without touching his soul. As usual, thanks for the comments guys. j. |

Dear Jimmy, it's a rewarding task ... to see where and how we were and to realize that in the present we are the sum of all of these past moments that still evoke so much emotion. Very nice. Love, Margherita |
