displaced

You painted a pretty picture of me,
one that no one else could see-
but you found out, in reality
it was only what you
wanted me to be.

I am not a sunset, I am not dawn.
I am a burning regret that lingers on.
I am not flowers on the table.
I am not a mare in the stable.

I am not a Thomas Kinkade.
I am not a bridge across the creek you made.
I am not a field of sunflowers.
I am not a scene that captures hours.

I am a middle-america displacement,
wishing for the west coast more and more-
so maybe you should turn your ticket in
and get your money back at the door.

Maybe that person can see what you don't see and sometimes it happens that their picture of us actually does become real.  Nothing like a bit of "faith" in someone to make them ... shine.

Dixie, I agree with Helen.

Some day you will get use to marriage and living with someone else. It's harder when you are older to adjust. Just be patient.

I think this kind of writing is great therapy. I have always found that writing about what bothers me is my only release.

Dear Dixie, you are all those things in the first three stanzas and soooo much more!

The lucky guy who bought that ticket, won the lotto of the century!
