Remembering '74 I remember when you were soft and wonderful beneath the lithe, suppleness of youth, and everyday we fell in love again, exploring ourselves, learning things we never knew, and now you're soft and wonderful everywhere, in layers you never had before, and though we may not fall in love again, every day, I love you every morning, in the evening when we say good night - I love you in a way that gets stronger and stronger every time you look my way, you touch my hand; I love you as if you were still lithe and supple, and we were learning things brand new, I love the changes, the wrinkles, every strand of gray, the years, the layers, every day I open my eyes and see you there. I remember when you were soft and wonderful - I remember . . . I remember, and I love you still, today. ~~~ ©wesley james beard, jr. january 2010 Terry and I were married Dec. 23, 1974. We marked 35 years last month and this piece has been a part of many of them with all the heart, the emotion, and the meaning still in tact. |

And what a wonderful way to feel. Go on doing what you do... We married at 16, two months short of 17, and he one month into 21. Everyone said it would not last. We had 47 years together before cancer took his life. We sure fooled the unbeliving. Hoping you can go on longer, sharing your love together. late. |

Jimmy! I love the man (and poet) that you are! I wish every woman on the face of this earth could be loved, honoured and cherished as you do your own wife. I also love the woman that she must be to have inspired the love that you have shown for her in this unforgettable anniversary poem of enduring adoration! Sending much love to both of you and blessings for many, many more years of wedded bliss! God bless you! Linda www.lindadowd.com |

Hi Wesley I don't think that you and your wife are lucky at all! On the contrary, I think you have both chosen well, and then worked very hard and well at your marriage, and that you deserve every bit of the happiness you have. Luck just doesn't come into it at all. Owl |

Thanks to each of you for seeing and comment on this well-worn post. And yes, my wise 'Owl' friend...a lot of work goes into it, although I think luck or better came into play in the 'choosing' - we were married 3 months after our blind date meeting and both of us had told friends after that first date that we had met the one we were going to marry. I don't think either of us 'chose'...we were 'chosen!'. j. |
