Out on the ozone night where insects click and phosphoresce, glinting shadows mime a sky, black velvet blue shot through with distant ice, out in the perfumed night of moist and pine, of mulch and earth of lake edge fecund steam and night bloom sweet, to taste the dying day blush her last in a sherbet west, out on the waves a watercolor fleet, harmonized by echoes of the loon, in reply a smug and tired moon rests upon the forest silhouette, a thousand moonlets scatter the dark waves, the water slaps a sleepy lullaby upon the shore, or on the old wood dock, and campfire smoke moves upon the eye, teased by browning marshmallow dreams again, drifts easy on this lazy evening, across the lake to seek the far shore now. . The cabins glow with welcome windows fire, warm with life that spills through every square, and gilds the fern and tree trunks sleeping near, laughter, voices, children singing, hear,.. this melody become a symphony, the cadence of the summer`s rhapsody, and nod along in time, this chorus bright,, acapella, music of the night. |

Maybe it does need a Harley, at that! . ~Amaryllis |

The part that struck me the most was the part that did make it to print...the slapping and cussing of mosquitoes and other critters, the no-breath-of-air-humidity, sweat gushing of my body and not even a wisp of air to turn it into cooling mositure...and of course the poison ivy scratching I'm now doing. And then there's the snakes thinking your hot body is the perfect resting place. And we don't hear loons, we hear toad frogs, bull frogs, tree frogs, a pair of frogs in the next tent, mating... I tried walking down to the lakes edge but the two orange (about a foot apart) glowing lights in the beam of my own) advised me not too...well actually they were saying, "c'mon, boy....c'mon over". Sorry...really enjoyed you piece...just couldn't help myself...by the way, I moved inside to respond to your piece...couldn't take the 'beauty of nightlife" any longer...here in the wilds of So. Texas. Snicker, snicker... |

Amaryllis, you speak my language. This is the type of poetry I need to read when I am mega-stressed (and at any other time for that matter!). Thank you for the wonderful experience. I am still there. Owl |
