One evening in Istanbul we sit…. Thousands of warm passers-by were mumbling, The bridge of Galata became a bridge of improvised dances, Fishermen in the matt complexion and in the virile mustache grilled sardines bigger than their hands, Behind us mosques jostled the pink sky And the voice of a muezzin crossed the tired city, We began singing and our voices got lost As two birds on a sea of scattered ferries. |
