RAISING THE SAIL “The winds of grace are blowing all the time-- it is up to us to raise the sail—“ Ramakrishna How many times I heard that said before I set out on this voyage. It was my mother's favorite words and I heard them all my live. Yet it wasn't until she was gone that I took her words to heart. Now who knows where these sails of faith will take me? Because of her words, I chose a path most women would never take. Into the stars, beyond the moons and as far as imagination could go. No one expects me to return, and perhaps I will remain, for the winds of grace have brought me to a special time and place. I do not know the people here, they do not look like me, but inside our hearts we hear each other and I've never had that before. Perhaps this world is where I should have been born, My mother was trying to tell me to make that leap into the dark unknown. I feel her here, so far from home, in a place no one has ever been. But now, this is home and I think I shall never return. |

For me this poem has special meaning in that I have chosen to live in a foreign country so far from home where people have different customs and speak a different language. That said no matter how far you go away from home part of your soul lingers in the nest that you left. ---- The language that you employ in this piece sets the appropriate tone. |

Everything was the 'unknown' until somebody took that voyage. Sounds as though your mother motivated you to make your own world. Welcome to the blue pages, (I'm the only normal one here by the way). LOL |

Thank you, Earl and Toerag, for the kind words. By the way, define "normal"? |

Welcome to Pips Eldest. I really am touched by this poem. Home has a certain, different meaning to me lately. One small thing though, at the end of the 2nd line, did you mean "live" or "life"?? |

Eldest - All progress is a leap in the dark. And if mom says leap....then leap!Moms always seem to know best, even when we think we know better. With change comes growth. I enjoyed this very much Eldest. |

Dear Eldest... I share that title with you. I broke rote by doing what my parents thought I might not, being the person I was then, 40 years ago. Now of course, it is nothing extraordinary, but still, as is said above, one never travels too far from their parents, their home, when the love of them was so great. Your mother taught you well. I look forward to reading more from you. Thank you for finding Passions. |

Sometimes the dove returns to the ark, and sometimes it doesn't, according to an old story. Thanks for a good read, and welcome. |

I have been an ex-pat for the past forty years. Of course, now I have become more or less a citizen of the world, but I still sometimes have doubts about having left my roots. This poem, which is very well written, really speaks to me. Good luck with your future writing. |
