Life of Habits It has been said before That our lifes are the sum Of all of our habits That we have collected Habits that hurts us Habits that heal us Habits that makes peace Habits that create turmoil We long to kick some of them We struggle to embrace others But so often we just sail on Like a sailboat without a sail The winds of desire blows We do what our minds command The compass that this our awareness Has been overcome with our thinking We do things to gain pleaure We do things to avoid pain But so often we live in fear That someone might find out That we are not good enough That we have been Hiding, pretending, disguising Behind the comforts of our habits Self sabatoging, hurting, destroying Through the actions of our behaviors The very things we yearn to do Come from the deeping longing To be loved for who we are And to love without conditions As we begin to awaken from our slumber We will begin to become aware That all that we do, Over and over and over again Will either be our unhappiness Or be the reflection, Of a heart that has been freed and has now become... ...gratitude manifested. |

quote: Yes! I enjoyed your reflections on our habits. To receive and to give unconditional love is the highest goal we can aspire to reach indeed. Beautiful. Love, Margherita |

Interesting subject for a poem. I once read a poems about habits by Jane Hirshfield. I really like the sailing metaphor -- "winds of desire," etc. And, yes, well thought-out and very deep. |
