in purple mist of Himalayan shadows a slant-lit forest, a thousand ancient rivers shimmer in the sprightly breeze origins of loneliness stumble through the dark-skinned crowd though the mantra’s lost silent prayer remembers the heart how good to have reached the light end of the tunnel to hear the spirits’ fluted notes fall like rain gems from broad leaves to gnarled roots to welcome the snake among the friendly creatures to know how the self has climbed the unfamiliar path upwards toward what it has become |
