. Oh no My Dear Even these birdbrain Geese are not so ignorant Of what this evening Could be going on Nor have the wolves For all their years Inside a wire cage Forgotten so completely Despite restraint and age A persistent wildness In their being So as we pass Perhaps for one last time They stop their hapless Listless circling and Follow us with their eyes While dusk light Shimmers on our inland seas Caressing azure possibilities And geese take notice And flap their wings . |

What caught my eye was the title. My parents live near Racine, Wisconsin and I grew up in Milwaukee and Elkhorn. It`s a good thing Racine caught my eye because I might have missed this poem. There is one stanza that I really love - Nor have the wolves....A persistent wildness..in their being. |
