Don’t take anything for granted Space / time / counts for something Don’t take approval for granted, as this weight too soon will fill space here and there, and there, quite the encumbrance, I say, for I shall braid hairs not yet grown, in grand, then braid hairs that should be gray, but stray to a life beyond mine own ~ and, I shan’t braid my own, it seems, for I look forward to those days that life will meet me on terms of verve and being, that are conditioned to meet the after before the fore, and, then, repeat renditions. Repeat. Chorus. Repeat. Sands to shore and shore to more. And more. Then once again. Survival. Observe, I see the link of you, my muse, the times that should be spent, in living well, and digging wells of life that we’d not repent. Repeat, perhaps, but not repent. This, my age, my eon, this search, to find footprints in shadows of ocean water as the sand flows out and my feet sink in to a small quicksand of seize which I would let take if it would grasp all but it never does. A riptide would, if one walks out far enough. I have never learned to walk that side, or that far. I take nothing, Nothing! For granted. ~*~ (c) 8-24-04 KRJ |

some Masons take concrete for granite, Kar, but the real review is that you seem to be able with considerable ease, to describe the undescribable. Jeff |

I was going to say something altogether different about this poem until I read Jeff's reply ... and I realized he said it best. Bravo! ebm |

Again, an impactful poem, and yet you write it with such grace--it's a bit like a shot of Patron--goes down like water, but knocks you to yer knees. (sorry for the analogy, but um, I guess that's how you know it's me, huh?) ![]() Probably one of my favorites from you...and ooh, I can drink a lot of Patron. ![]() |

I find myself taking things for granted some days but then I smack myself. I was flowing in this poem...until I read Karen's reply and then got taken off on a Patron daydream. *adds that to grocery list |

Sunshine, With every poem I read of yours I so impressed and inspired...you are truly a wise and humble woman who has learned to hear the emotions in your soul and have the awareness to be able to compose words and allow us to share in these moments with you...Bravo and thank you ..ww |

Title and username and number of comments pulled me in... Taking with me respect for the poet, and also reminders of small quicksands being best, and of when I took hair for granted. |

Our readers never make it easy to remain humble... ![]() ![]() but it does make us work harder to give you something more to read. Thank you for the push... and for the unspoken acceptance that only the readers might take back with them. |

"Observe, I see the link of you, my muse, the times that should be spent, in living well, and digging wells of life that we’d not repent. Repeat, perhaps, but not repent." it's about that muse Karilea and that link magnificent! |

As alwasy, I bow to you and yours. Another fine write in style. content, and message. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Such skill and savoir faire. I wish my gift was to write images in the way you do. A poet must leave traces of his passing not proof. |

"for I shall braid hairs not yet grown, in grand, then braid hairs that should be gray, but stray to a life beyond mine own" Amazing work, but you know that, don't you? I love your writings. |

"I shan’t braid my own, it seems, for I look forward to those days that life will meet me on terms of verve and being, that are conditioned to meet the after before the fore," There is much to ponder within this piece Karilea, and much to learn. I enjoyed this very much. ![]() Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

This is a beautiful plea to slow down, embrace life`s gifts.. enjoyed the second strophe especially, the sound of the ocean`s waves repeated in your wording. Lovely poem, thank you for sharing it ![]() ~Amaryllis |

For every wish granted, so goes, another dream. Yes, how nice it would be that if instead of granted, we would all try and take things more for, gratitude. This was lovely Karilea! Richard xx |
