The clock is loud when ticking so in tune with pain and anguish and sleep that would come marching in takes a backward step and retreats into the archives of a woman’s memory. I do remember sleep from days of long ago when it crept up sweet and silently and draped a sense of peace over everyone in need but these days it seems to be in the grip of dementia. Sleep has forgotten how it used to be and can’t regain its sense of propriety amidst the insistent and repetitive tick-tock, tick-tock, of that infernal clock. But maybe it’s a rebel with tattoos, rings, and studs, crying for acceptance of its new way of being but it matters not, you see, because it’s simply not here! Helen / 11 May 2010 |

Dear Helen, that tick-tock can be really very disturbing. Talk sweetly to sleep and it will embrace you as before. I agree though the unencumbered sleep of youth can't be experienced with the same intensity. I have such thoughts too. Ticking clocks are off limits in bedrooms here too ... Love and sweet dreams. My wife would definitely echo your sentiments so elegantly stated here. Many a night has been spent in search of that most elusive balm to the day’s troubles. Thanks for sharing. It is always a pleasure to read. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

Honeybunch - sorry to hear this sad writing from you. No sleep is a real bummer, as I've been there. Wish you the best... BC |

I can understand how difficult it is to fall to sleep at times. ---- I think that this was written very well and will gather lots of readers. |

I'm still struggling with Insomnia myself, the poem fits sleepless nights perfectly. Beautifully captured. |

Thanks everyone for your comments. Falling asleep isn't my problem but staying asleep is - and I can't even claim responsibility for it because ... I'm asleep. Helen |

I hope you can get some sleep soon. The poem was nice if only we can stop the tick, tock for ya. |
